About JPT

What is JPT?

    JPT or Japanese Proficiency Test certified by the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Justice was developed for Japanese learners who do not speak Japanese as their first language.
    The JPT aims to objectively measure and evaluate the advanced and functional communication abilities in everyday life, including business situations required for studying and working in Japan.
    Just as TOIEC test, JPT has 200 questions in total (listening comprehension 100 questions and reading comprehension 100 questions) The scores of each part are on a scale of 5 to 495 (990 scores in total)
    The test-takers will do the test on PC (45 mins for the listening part and 50 mins for the reading part). The test result will be scored on a scale of 10 to 990 other than a pass or a fail result. The score also can be used for a variety of purposes depends on the need of each test-takers.
    JPT efficiently measures the real abilities of all test takers. You can perceive your present level without having to estimate yourselves first.

 The test scores are on a scale of 10 to 990 other than a pass or a fail result. (both listening and reading scores are on a scale of 5 to 495, presented in increments of 5 points)
 Knowing your current ability from these scores and comparing it with your target ability, you can get an idea of how much you need to learn.
6.Retaking the Test
 By retaking the test, you can measure the progress because of constant difficulty level. It is also a method to improve your scores.
7.Prompt Responses
 Taking the test on PC requires quick answers. This method helps test takers measure real communication skills.
8.Score Equalization Method
 It is a scaled score, full marks of 990 points, calculated using a statistical processing method called “equating.”

Differences between JPT and JLPT (level comparison)

    - The Japanese Language Proficiency test (JLPT) is a graded evaluation of N1, N2 … but the JPT is a graded evaluation of points. It is possible to measure the growth of language skills for each exam and give an accurate evaluation. JPT's score evaluation enables accurate comparison of abilities that cannot be expressed in graded evaluation. Also, while the JLPT is held twice a year, the JPT is held six times a year, and there are plenty of examination opportunities.

    - The JPT is a qualification recognized by Ministry of Justice Immigration Bureau. It is recognized as a qualification to enter Japanese language education institutions. "For those who want to work or study in Japan must acquire at least 315 points in the JPT Japanese Language Proficiency Test conducted by the Japan Youth Development Association."
